European football’s biggest Buzz movers for January 2023
Arsenal, Manchester United register the biggest upticks in Buzz scores among all football clubs across various European markets.
Manchester United, who have been on a roll since the resumption of club football after the World Cup, made a 11.6-point jump in Buzz scores in January 2023 compared to December 2022. The Red Devils have won three of their last five Premier League matches, and also made it to the final of the EFL Cup alongside Newcastle United.
The Premier League table toppers Arsenal made a 10-point leap in Buzz scores in the UK. The Gunners have won four of their last five matches, including a win against Manchester United. Brighton and Hove Albion (+4.4), Newcastle United (+4.1) and Brentford (+3.9) round off the list.
With wins in each of their three Bundesliga matches in January, Borussia Dortmund tops the German portion of the list with 2.3-point improvement. The German clubs made small improvements relatively, with each of Koln (+1.7), Nurnberg (+1.4), Eintracht Frankfurt (+1.1) and Hamburger SV (+1) scoring less than a 2-point increase.
Along with their on-field dominance in January, Barcelona also claim the Buzz crown in Spain with a 3.9-point jump to 20.5. Barcelona won each of their matches in January across La Liga, Super Cup and Copa del Rey. They won the Super Cup with a 3-1 win over Real Madrid. Villareal (+3.5), Athletic Bilbao (+2.4), Valencia (+2.4) and Arsenal make the top five among Spanish consumers too. Villareal’s uptick may have had a little to do with their win over Real Madrid in La Liga in early January.
In France, RC Lens claims the top spot with a six-point jump over December scores in a month they defeated a star-studded PSG 3-1. Olympique de Marseille, currently placed second on the Ligue 1 table, also rank second in France’s football Buzz movers. Nantes (+3.4), Manchester United (+3.4) and Girodins Bordeaux (+2.8) close out the list.
In Italy, Napoli takes the crown with a 6.4-point jump to 29.4 – the highest score on the list this month. Napoli won four out of five Serie A matches in January, including a 5-1 scoreline against Juventus. Monza (+5.6) and Atalanta (+4.6) are the other Italian teams on the list with Manchester United (+2.4) and Arsenal (+1.9) closing it out.
