Who is most responsible for the mental health of athletes?
After US gymnast Simon Biles withdrew from the all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympics, YouGov Sport asked Americans and Brits who is most responsible for the mental health of athletes.
Around three in five (61%) of Americans and two in five Brits (40%) say it’s the athletes themselves, more so than coaches, governing bodies or agents and managers. Notably, virtually no one thinks sponsors should be responsible.
In the US, younger adults aged 18-29 are more than twice as likely as the general public to put the responsibility on the league or event (15%).
